Background:

Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a prevalent global health concern requiring novel therapies with improved safety profiles.
Acupuncture, a traditional Eastern medicine technique, is increasingly explored for functional gastrointestinal disorders.
Existing evidence on manual acupuncture and electroacupuncture for FD lacks robustness regarding efficacy and safety.

Purpose of the Study:

To systematically evaluate the effectiveness and safety of manual acupuncture and electroacupuncture for treating functional dyspepsia.
To synthesize findings from randomized controlled trials comparing acupuncture interventions with standard medical treatments, sham acupuncture, or blank controls.

Main Methods:

Conducted comprehensive electronic searches across multiple databases (e.g., CENTRAL, MEDLINE, EMBASE, AMED) and trial registries.
