Background:

  • Transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI) has evolved with newer devices.
  • The retrievable JenaValve™ represents a novel option for TAVI procedures.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the procedural and 6-month outcomes of the first clinical experience with the JenaValve™.
  • Assess the safety and efficacy of the JenaValve™ in patients undergoing TAVI.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective analysis of 24 consecutive patients undergoing elective transapical TAVI with JenaValve™.
  • Data collected included procedural success, mortality, valve hemodynamics, paravalvular leakage, and functional class.

Main Results:

  • Device success rate was 88% with a 4% 30-day mortality and 31% 6-month mortality.
  • Significant reduction in transvalvular gradient and increase in aortic valve area observed post-TAVI.
  • Mild paravalvular leakage occurred in 18% of patients; functional class improved.

Conclusions:

  • Transcatheter aortic valve implantation using the JenaValve™ prosthesis is adequate and safe in this initial cohort.
  • The JenaValve™ shows promise as a viable option for TAVI, warranting further investigation.
