[Modern status of chemotherapy of tuberculosis]
Abstract:
The state of the art in the drug treatment of tuberculosis has changed into a speciality. The decision for using the traditional or the modern regimens of chemotherapy require a differential indication, to be performed by a specialist only. The applicability of update short-course regimens of chemotherapy is permissible under special conditions only. The treatment constantly requires the combination of 3, 4 or 5 antituberculosis drugs, including INH and RMP as far as practicable. The duration of treatment is determined by the applied combination of drugs. The effectiveness of the therapy is high. It must be tested periodically by bacteriological examinations. The new therapeutic short-course regimens of chemotherapy involved a substantial shortening of the duration of disease, of hospitalisation and of work disablement, and with it a considerable cost reduction.
