Data Validation01:03

Data Validation

6.4K
Data validation is an essential part of a comprehensive assessment. Validation is confirming or verifying and opening the door to gathering more assessment data as it clarifies vague or unclear data. The process of checking and verifying the collected information is called data validation. The primary purpose of data validation is to ensure data is as free from error, bias, and misinterpretation as possible.

Assessment of the Gastrointestinal System II: Health Perception Pattern

627
Assessing the gastrointestinal (GI) system is a complex process that begins with collecting subjective data. This data, collected through patient interviews, provides crucial insights into the patient's health history, perception patterns, and lifestyle habits, all contributing significantly to GI health.
Health Perception Patterns
Health perception patterns offer valuable insights into a patient's lifestyle habits and how they may impact their GI health. These patterns include:

A thorough health history and physical assessment are essential for identifying cardiovascular disease (CVD) symptoms and distinguishing them from other health issues.
Initial Enquiry
Ask the patient about their primary concern and thoroughly explore all reported symptoms.
Medical History
Investigate past illnesses affecting the cardiovascular system, such as angina, anemia, rheumatic fever, congenital heart disease, stroke, thrombophlebitis, dysrhythmias, varicosities

Reliability and Validity01:29

Reliability and Validity

12.8K
Reliability and validity are two important considerations that must be made with any type of data collection. Reliability refers to the ability to consistently produce a given result. In the context of psychological research, this would mean that any instruments or tools used to collect data do so in consistent, reproducible ways.

    Area of Science:

    • Health Services Research
    • Patient-Reported Outcomes

    Background:

    • Existing patient experience surveys are often lengthy and setting-specific.
    • There is a need for a concise, universally applicable tool to monitor patient experience.
    • The howRwe questionnaire was developed to address this gap.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To develop and validate the howRwe questionnaire, a short, generic tool for assessing patient experience.
    • To evaluate the psychometric properties and validity of the howRwe questionnaire.
    • To determine if howRwe can differentiate between clinical and organizational aspects of care.

    Main Methods:

    • The howRwe questionnaire was developed with four items: two on clinical care and two on organizational care.
    • Each item uses a four-point response scale (excellent, good, fair, poor).
    • The questionnaire was validated in 828 patients at an orthopaedic pre-operative assessment clinic (PAC).

    Main Results:

    • The howRwe questionnaire is brief (29 words) and highly readable (Flesch-Kincaid grade 2.2).
    • It demonstrated good psychometric properties (Cronbach's α=0.82) and validity.
    • The tool successfully distinguished improvements in promptness and organization following system changes, while showing no change in kindness or communication.

    Conclusions:

    • The howRwe questionnaire meets the criteria for a short, generic tool suitable for frequent patient experience monitoring.
    • Validation in PAC patients confirmed good psychometric properties and concurrent, construct, and discriminant validity.
    • howRwe is a valuable instrument for assessing and tracking patient experience in diverse healthcare settings.
