Summary

Patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) show increased airway resistance despite lacking respiratory symptoms. Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) revealed these changes, but no correlation was found with UC disease activity.

  • To compare pulmonary function in UC patients versus healthy controls.

  • Prospective study involving 30 UC patients and 30 healthy controls.
  • Pulmonary function tests (PFTs) including spirometry, body plethysmography, and impulse oscillometry were used.
  • Analysis of the relationship between PFTs, airway resistance, and UC disease characteristics.
