Summary

A new technique using a snare and a handmade microcatheter safely removes stretched coils during aneurysm embolization. This method offers a viable rescue option for misplaced coils within the delivery microcatheter.

Background:

Aneurysm embolization is a critical procedure for treating vascular abnormalities.
Undesirable coil detachment or stretching during embolization can lead to serious complications like thrombus formation and parent artery occlusion.

Observation:

A case presented an undesirably stretched coil within the parent artery during aneurysm embolization.
Existing rescue methods were considered, but a novel approach was employed.

Findings:

A safe and effective rescue technique was utilized involving a snare and a custom-made monorail microcatheter.
The technique successfully retrieved the undesirably stretched coil while it remained within the coil delivery microcatheter.
