[Communication denied: a pilot study on critical relationship in nursing]

In literature there are few studies on denied nursing communication/relationship and why this communication/relationship is avoided.

Evaluate criticism in communication/relationship in nursing in order to build an analytical basis for further study.

Participant observation during internship placements, diary and notes taken during the observation, furthermore the whole work context as well as the relationship in a internal medicine department were taken into consideration.

In the majority of cases communication is avoided, reducing the time of contact with patients, in others it is sought even when not expressly required by the patient.

Escape relationship may be an indicator of professional insecurity. The denied relationship is a mirror in which the practitioner finds its weaknesses. Considering these elements promotes the therapeutic path. The study gave interesting and relevant insights which can be considered as starting point for further research on the field with a wider sample.
