    Summary

We remain cautious about a solar-layer-oriented Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor for solar adaptive optics. Further analysis and proof-of-concept work are encouraged to address feasibility challenges.

    Area of Science:

    • Optics and Photonics
    • Astronomy and Astrophysics

    Background:

    • This study evaluates a layer-oriented wavefront sensing approach for solar multiconjugate adaptive optics.
    • The practicability of this approach, specifically a solar-layer-oriented Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor, is critically assessed.

    Discussion:

    • A detailed review of comments by Kellerer is presented.
    • The authors maintain reservations regarding the feasibility of the proposed solar-layer-oriented wavefront sensing method.
    • Specific challenges and limitations identified in the original study are reiterated.

    Key Insights:

    • The proposed layer-oriented wavefront sensing for solar adaptive optics presents significant practical challenges.
    • The feasibility of a solar-layer-oriented Shack-Hartmann wavefront sensor remains uncertain based on current analysis.
