    Background:

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the impact of Team Strategies & Tools to Enhance Performance and Patient Safety (TeamSTEPPS®) training on gynecology surgical team dynamics.
    • To measure changes in team member presence, adherence to safety protocols (huddle, time out), and perception of teamwork.
    • To assess the effect of improved teamwork on surgical optimization and communication.

    Main Methods:

    • A 300-day descriptive, preintervention and postintervention study design.
    • Convenience sample of 18 gynecology surgical team members.
    • Utilized the TeamSTEPPS® Teamwork Perception Questionnaire and collected data on compliance rates and surgical procedure times.

    Main Results:

    • Statistically significant increase in the mean number of team members present per procedure (2.34 vs. 2.61, P = .038).
    • Significant improvement in final time-out (FTO) compliance following definition clarification (1.05 vs. 1.18, P = .004).
    • Enhanced staff perception of teamwork and improved communication and work relationships observed post-intervention.

    Conclusions:

    • Team training, protocol implementation, and algorithmic approaches can significantly enhance surgical team performance.
    • TeamSTEPPS® intervention positively impacted team presence, safety protocol adherence, and overall teamwork perception.
    • The findings support the integration of structured teamwork strategies to improve surgical outcomes and the healthcare work environment.
