Convergent evolution: the genetics of queen number in ants

Abstract:
Large, non-recombining genomic regions underlie the polymorphism in colony queen number in two distantly related ant species. This illustrates that convergence in complex phenotypes can arise via convergence in general genomic architecture, rather than convergent changes in specific genes.
