Purpose of the Study:

  • To characterize a specific subgroup of IC/BPS patients exhibiting a multiple sensitivity phenotype.
  • To compare the clinical characteristics of IC/BPS patients with multiple sensitivities against those with fewer sensitivities.

  • Defined "multiple sensitivity syndrome" in IC/BPS patients as having ≥3 confirmed allergies/sensitivities.
  • Conducted a 1:2 age-matched case-control study comparing IC/BPS patients with multiple sensitivities (cases) to those with few/no allergies (controls).
  • Utilized standardized parameters including symptom scores (ICSI, PUF) and UPOINT classification for comparisons.

  • While limitations exist (retrospective design, single center), this phenotype suggests potential for targeted therapeutic strategies.
  • Further research into this specific IC/BPS subgroup may optimize treatment for patients with co-occurring multiple sensitivity syndrome.
