A single nucleotide polymorphism or SNP is a single nucleotide variation at a specific genomic position in a large population. It is the most prevalent type of sequence variation found in the human genome. Point mutations that occur in more than 1% of the population qualify as SNPs. Summary

This meta-analysis found no strong overall link between interleukin-10 (IL-10) gene variations and sepsis risk. However, specific IL-10 polymorphisms were associated with sepsis susceptibility in Caucasian and Asian populations.

  • The -1082A/G polymorphism in the IL-10 gene is associated with sepsis susceptibility in Asians.
  • These findings highlight ethnicity-specific genetic influences on sepsis risk related to IL-10.
