  • Functional exercise capacity was evaluated via the 6-minute walk distance (6MWD), alongside spirometry, mood scales, and muscle function tests.

  • Nearly 44% of COPD patients reported poor sleep quality.
  • Poor sleep was significantly associated with shorter 6MWD, older age, worse quality of life, and increased symptoms of depression and anxiety.
  • The PSQI global score was a significant independent psychological predictor of 6MWD, while 6MWD was the sole physical predictor of PSQI total score.

Conclusions:

  • A strong correlation exists between sleep quality and functional exercise capacity in individuals with COPD.
  • Improving sleep quality may be a potential therapeutic target to enhance exercise capacity and overall well-being in COPD patients.
