    Background:

    • Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) with prostatitis is a common urological condition in men.
    • The exact causes of BPH and prostatitis are not fully understood.
    • Cellular immune responses in prostate adenoma are an understudied area.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate the cellular immune response in patients with BPH.
    • To explore the correlation between immune cell changes, prostate-specific antigen (PSA), and histopathology in BPH.

    Main Methods:

    • Included 31 male patients undergoing surgery for BPH (TUR-P or simple prostatectomy).
    • Excluded patients with urinary tract infections.
    • Performed lymphocyte immunophenotyping (T, B, NK cells) via flow cytometry and measured serum total PSA using EIA.

    Main Results:

    • Observed decreased suppressor/cytotoxic T-cells and B cells in all BPH forms.
    • Noted increased Natural Killer (NK) cells in BPH cases associated with inflammation.
    • Elevated prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels were found in less than 50% of patients across all BPH clinical forms.

    Conclusions:

    • BPH is associated with significant alterations in T-cell and B-cell populations.
    • These immune cell changes may indicate increased susceptibility to infections and malignant transformation.
    • Further research is needed to elucidate the role of immune cells in BPH pathogenesis.
