Background:

Previous research on mild cognitive impairment (MCI) has predominantly focused on cognitive deficits.
Perceptual deficits in MCI remain under-researched despite the link between sensory and cognitive functions.
The sound-induced flash illusion (SiFi) offers a novel paradigm to investigate sensory processing in neurological conditions.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate perceptual differences in individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) compared to healthy controls (HC).
To explore the integration of audiovisual information in MCI using the sound-induced flash illusion (SiFi).
To assess the potential of perceptual tasks in enhancing MCI diagnosis.

Main Methods:

The study employed the sound-induced flash illusion (SiFi) paradigm.
Participants included individuals diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and healthy controls (HC).
The SiFi involves presenting two auditory beeps and one visual flash, with participants reporting perceived flashes.

Participants with MCI demonstrated a significantly higher perception of the SiFi compared to HC.
