Clavicular hook plate fixation for grade-III acromioclavicular (AC) dislocation in athletes provides excellent functional outcomes and allows a rapid return to sports activities. This surgical technique demonstrates high patient satisfaction and effective pain management.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the clinical outcomes of using a clavicular hook plate for treating acute grade-III AC dislocations.
  • To assess functional recovery, pain levels, and return-to-sport timelines in young athletes.

Main Methods:

  • Retrospective review of medical records for 19 athletes (14 male, 5 female) aged 18–49 years with grade-III AC dislocation.
  • Surgical fixation was performed using a 3.5-mm clavicular hook plate.
  • Outcomes assessed included the visual analogue score (VAS) for pain and the Constant shoulder score.

Main Results:

  • Mean follow-up was 4.2 years.
  • Patients reported low mean VAS pain scores (1.8).
  • Functional outcomes were excellent (≥90) in 14 patients and good (83–89) in 5 patients, with full range of motion achieved by week 5 and return to sports by 6 months.
