Summary

Plasma 7B2 levels significantly increased after luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) administration in healthy young adults. This suggests pituitary 7B2 may be released by LHRH, particularly in gonadotrophs.

Area of Science:

  • Endocrinology
  • Neuroendocrinology
  • Molecular Endocrinology

Background:

  • The protein 7B2 is found in the pituitary gland.
  • Its release in response to specific releasing hormones is not fully understood.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the effect of luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) and ovine corticotropin-releasing hormone (o-CRH) on plasma 7B2 levels in healthy young subjects.

Main Methods:

  • Intravenous administration of LHRH to seven young subjects.
  • Intravenous administration of o-CRH to six young subjects.
  • Measurement of plasma 7B2 concentrations before and after hormone administration.

Main Results:

  • Plasma 7B2 concentration significantly increased following LHRH administration (P < 0.01).

Related Experiment Videos

  • No significant increase in plasma 7B2 was observed after o-CRH administration.
  • Previous studies showed no increase in plasma 7B2 after thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) and growth hormone-releasing hormone (GHRH) administration.
  • Conclusions:

    • Pituitary 7B2 may be present in gonadotrophs.
    • LHRH appears to be a physiological stimulus for the release of pituitary 7B2.
