Researchers investigated if the brain imaging agent 99mTc-hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime (HM-PAO) is selectively taken up by cells infected with Human Herpesvirus 1 (HSV-1). The study found no specific uptake in infected rats or cells, indicating HM-PAO is not suitable for this purpose.
