Abstract:
Behavioural medicine research provides evidence for the positive effects of cognitive behavioural approaches to psychosocial problems in patients with cancer and other chronic somatic illnesses. In an extension of this research line, Mewes et al. now provide evidence for the cost-effectiveness of cognitive behavioural therapy and physical exercise for alleviating treatment-induced menopausal symptoms in breast cancer patients [J Cancer Surviv, Sep 2 2014]. These important findings are discussed and put into the context of future research and clinical practice regarding quality of life, quality-adjusted life years and patient reported outcomes. The benefits for the women concerned appear to be considerable.
