Area of Science:

  • Dermatology
  • Gynecology
  • Pediatrics

Background:

  • Bowenoid papulosis is a rare condition typically affecting adults.
  • Prepubertal cases are exceptionally rare, with only a few documented instances.

Observation:

  • A 34-month-old girl presented with a six-month history of asymptomatic vulvar papules.
  • Histologic examination and DNA probe studies confirmed the diagnosis of bowenoid papulosis.

Findings:

  • Cryotherapy effectively resolved the vulvar lesions in the patient.
  • This case represents the third reported instance of prepubertal bowenoid papulosis.

Implications:

  • While sexual abuse should be considered in pediatric cases, it was not evident in this patient.
  • Association with cervical intraepithelial neoplasia and squamous cell carcinoma necessitates close gynecologic follow-up.
