Background:

  • Malignant glioma development following trauma is exceptionally rare.
  • This report details a glioblastoma multiforme case that emerged subsequent to a depressed skull fracture.

Observation:

  • A 65-year-old male presented with right hemiplegia, epilepsy, and altered consciousness.
  • Imaging revealed a large contrast-enhancing mass at the left frontotemporoparietal junction, beneath a previous skull fracture site.
  • The patient had a history of surgery for a left calvarial depression fracture 35 years prior.

Findings:

  • Histopathologic analysis confirmed a high-grade glial tumor.
  • Surgical excision of the mass was successfully performed.

Implications:

  • While a pre-existing tumor is more probable, this case highlights the potential for traumatic cerebral lesions to act as a predisposing factor for malignant glial tumors.
  • Further research is warranted to explore the link between head trauma and glioma development.
