[Information seeking behavior and use of information resources among physicians in a Croatian Clinical Hospital]

Physicians are daily faced with the difficult task of clinical decision making. To successfully fulfill this task physicians depend on the availability of high value medical information. In order to determine information needs and information seeking behavior among physicians, a research was conducted between January 2008 and October 2009, using a convenience sample. The questionnaire was filled out by a total of 303 respondents in a Croatian university hospital. Research has shown that when they need a new medical information, the majority of respondents (56.1%) used books and joumrnals, 19.5% of respondents sought opinion from a colleague, and only 6.7% of respondents used medical database. Furthermore, 62.4% of respondents did not use medical databases, and only 33.9% of respondents used Medline. The results of this research indicate, that the respondents had low level of awareness and use of EBM resources (only 3.3% of respondents used The Cochrane Library).
