Sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) for papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) detects occult metastases but does not impact recurrence rates or thyroglobulin levels in the short term. Further long-term studies are needed to determine the clinical utility of lateral SLNB in preventing PTC recurrence.

Background:
