Area of Science:

  • Gynecologic Oncology
  • Pathology
  • Reproductive Medicine

Background:

  • Endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is a rare malignant uterine neoplasm.
  • Typically affects women aged 40-50.
  • Management protocols for ESS remain debated due to its rarity.

Observation:

  • A case of low-grade ESS in a 39-year-old woman.
  • Presented as rapid enlargement of a uterine fibroid polyp.
  • Associated with irregular and excessive vaginal bleeding.

Findings:

  • Surgical intervention included polypectomy and pan hysterectomy.
  • Histopathological examination and immunohistochemistry confirmed low-grade ESS (LGESS).
  • The patient underwent a novel post-surgical protocol and is under close follow-up.

Implications:

  • ESS should be considered in the differential diagnosis of rapidly enlarging uterine leiomyomas.
  • This case contributes to understanding ESS presentation and management.
  • Further research is needed to establish definitive management guidelines for ESS.
