Summary

Non-invasive body contouring techniques like low-level laser therapy, cryolipolysis, radio frequency, and high-intensity focused ultrasound offer safe and effective fat reduction. These methods provide significant circumferential reduction with minimal adverse effects.

Area of Science:

  • Aesthetic Medicine
  • Dermatology
  • Medical Technology

Background:

  • Surgical fat reduction poses risks, costs, and downtime.
  • Non-invasive body contouring is a rapidly growing field in aesthetic medicine.
  • Four leading techniques exist for localized subcutaneous fat reduction.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To review and compare leading non-invasive fat reduction techniques.
  • To evaluate clinical outcomes of non-invasive body contouring methods.
  • To assess the safety and efficacy of emerging aesthetic technologies.

Main Methods:

  • Systematic review of PubMed database.
  • Searched terms: 'non-invasive', 'low-level laser', 'cryolipolysis', 'ultrasound', 'radio frequency', 'lipolysis', 'fat reduction', 'body contour'.
  • Included 31 studies (27 prospective, 4 retrospective) with 2937 patients.

Main Results:

  • Low-level laser therapy (LLLT), cryolipolysis, high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU), and radio frequency (RF) were analyzed.
  • A majority of patients achieved significant fat reduction and satisfying results.
  • Average circumferential reduction of 2 cm or more was observed in the abdomen, hips, and thighs.

Conclusions:

  • Multiple non-invasive devices are safe and effective for localized fat reduction.
  • Results are consistent and reproducible across different devices.
  • No serious or permanent adverse effects were reported for these non-invasive techniques.
