Testes: Histology

4.0K
A tough, fibrous membrane, the tunica albuginea, covers the testes, extending inward to form fibrous partitions or septa, dividing them into internal compartments called lobules. Each lobule has 1 to 3 tightly coiled seminiferous tubules where sperm production occurs. These tubules merge into a tubular network at the back of the testis, known as the rete testis. It connects to 15 to 20 efferent ductules, leading to the epididymis.
The spermatogenic cells, responsible for producing sperm, are...

Summary
This summary is machine-generated.

Segmental testicular infarction is a rare cause of acute scrotal pain, often misdiagnosed as a tumor or torsion. Early diagnosis via sonography can lead to conservative management, avoiding unnecessary orchiectomy.

Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Segmental testicular infarction (STI) is an exceptionally rare condition.
  • It typically presents as acute scrotal pain, mimicking testicular tumors or torsion.
  • Few cases are documented in English medical literature.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To report a case of segmental testicular infarction.
  • To highlight diagnostic considerations and management strategies for this rare condition.

Main Methods:

  • Case presentation of a 23-year-old male with acute testicular pain.
  • Diagnostic evaluation included sonography.
  • Confirmation of hemorrhagic infarction through surgical exploration and pathological examination.

Main Results:

  • Sonography suggested testicular infarction.
  • Surgical and pathological findings confirmed hemorrhagic segmental testicular infarction.
  • Partial orchiectomy was performed.

Conclusions:

  • Segmental testicular infarction, though uncommon, must be considered in cases of acute scrotal pain.
  • Prompt diagnosis via imaging can guide conservative therapeutic strategies.
  • This condition's rarity underscores the importance of case reporting for clinical awareness.
