Summary

Pure alexia (PA) may stem from visual perception deficits, indicated by delayed P100 potentials. This can impair visual word form area (VWFA) activation, evidenced by an absent N170, hindering word reading.

Area of Science:

  • Neuroscience
  • Cognitive Psychology
  • Neurology

Background:

  • Pure alexia (PA) is often linked to visual processing impairments or reduced activation of the visual word form area (VWFA).
  • The precise neural mechanisms underlying PA remain incompletely understood.
