Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) and Ewing sarcoma (EWS) are rare in adult lungs. This case report details a 32-year-old male diagnosed with pulmonary Ewing sarcoma-PNETs presenting with chest pain and nodules.
Area of Science:
- Oncology
- Pulmonary Medicine
- Pathology
Background:
- Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) and Ewing sarcoma (EWS) are rare malignant small round cell neoplasms.
- Pulmonary involvement of EWS-PNETs in adults is exceptionally uncommon.
- These tumors typically originate in soft tissue or bone.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present a rare case of adult pulmonary Ewing sarcoma-PNETs.
- To highlight diagnostic challenges and clinical presentation of this rare entity.
Main Methods:
- Case report of a 32-year-old male.
- Clinical presentation including chest pain and diffuse pulmonary nodules on chest X-ray.
- Diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma-PNETs.
Main Results:
- The patient presented with symptoms suggestive of pulmonary disease.
- Imaging revealed diffuse pulmonary nodules.
- Histopathological diagnosis confirmed Ewing sarcoma-PNETs.
Conclusions:
- Pulmonary EWS-PNETs, though rare in adults, should be considered in the differential diagnosis of diffuse pulmonary nodules.
- This case underscores the importance of comprehensive diagnostic evaluation for rare thoracic malignancies.
