Sonography of cat scratch disease

Summary

This study aimed to identify sonographic features that can help distinguish cat scratch disease from other causes of medial epitrochlear masses. Researchers reviewed ultrasound images of patients with these masses and categorized them based on clinical and pathologic findings. The most significant findings were mass asymmetry and the presence of a hyperechoic hilum. These features were more common in cat scratch disease cases. Other features like central hyperemia and a hypoechoic mass were also noted but were not unique to this condition. The study suggests that combining these findings can help improve diagnostic accuracy. However, the authors emphasize that sonography should be used alongside clinical and pathologic data for a definitive diagnosis.
