The European experience with antihistamines in asthma
1Department of Respiratory Medicine, Western Infirmary, Glasgow, Scotland.
Abstract:
Until the appearance of nonsedating antihistamines such as terfenadine and astemizole, clinical studies of H1 antagonists in the treatment of asthma yielded disappointing results. The author reviews recent European studies that demonstrate terfenadine's effectiveness in reducing symptoms and improving bronchodilation in patients with mild atopic asthma.
