Relationship between programmed cell death-1 polymorphisms and clearance of hepatitis B virus

- No statistically significant differences in genotype distributions for PD-1 +7146 G>A and +7209 C>T polymorphisms were observed between chronic HBV and spontaneous clearance groups.
- A borderline significant association was noted between the PD-1 +7146 GA genotype and HBV chronicity risk in males (OR = 1.88, P = 0.07).
Conclusions:
- The studied PD-1 gene polymorphisms (+7146 G>A and +7209 C>T) do not appear to play a major role in genetic susceptibility to chronic HBV infection in the studied population.
- Larger, ethnically diverse studies are required to validate these findings and explore potential gender-specific effects.
