Summary

Elevated inflammatory markers, including white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, and fibrinogen, predict all-cause mortality in adults with obstructive lung function. A higher count of these markers significantly increases mortality risk.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To examine the association between elevated inflammatory markers and all-cause mortality in US adults with obstructive lung function (OLF).

  • Analysis of 1144 US adults (aged 40-79) from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III Linked Mortality Study (1988-2006).
  • Measured white blood cell count, C-reactive protein, and fibrinogen, creating an inflammatory marker score (0-3).
