This study identified 154 differentially expressed long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) involved in corneal neovascularization (CN). Targeting these lncRNAs may offer new treatments for ocular vascular diseases.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Molecular Biology
- Genetics
Background:
- Corneal neovascularization (CN) is a significant cause of vision loss.
- The role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) in CN pathogenesis is not well understood.
Purpose of the Study:
- To investigate the role of lncRNAs in corneal neovascularization (CN).
- To identify potential therapeutic targets for CN.
Main Methods:
- Established a murine CN model.
- Performed lncRNA expression profiling and constructed a lncRNA/mRNA coexpression network.
- Conducted Gene Ontology (GO) and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathway analyses.
- Validated lncRNA expression in clinical samples using real-time PCR.
Main Results:
- Identified 154 differentially expressed lncRNAs in vascularized corneas compared to normal corneas (60 downregulated, 94 upregulated).
- GO analysis revealed associations with extracellular region, DNA binding, and immune response.
- KEGG analysis highlighted "pathways in cancer" as the most enriched pathway.
- Specific lncRNAs (NR_033585 and lincRNA:chr8:129102060-129109035) were differentially expressed in CN.
Conclusions:
- This research offers new insights into the pathogenesis of CN.
- Dysregulated lncRNAs represent potential therapeutic targets for preventing and treating ocular vascular diseases.
