Professional nurses are not limited to bedside care and are taking roles of greater responsibility. A nurse should have a knowledge-based practice, including personal, theoretical, procedural, cultural, and reflexive knowledge. Background:

The nursing profession demands advanced interdisciplinary knowledge and skills.
Numerous nursing curricula are globally developed to meet these demands.
Assessing student perspectives on acquired competences is crucial for curriculum enhancement.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate undergraduate nursing students' perceptions of competences gained during their studies.
To assess the alignment of acquired competences with the Tuning project's framework.
To identify areas of strength and weakness in nursing student competence development.

Main Methods:

A survey was conducted among 69 postgraduate Master's degree students (nursing graduates).
Participants were from the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Maribor, Slovenia.
Data were analyzed using conventional statistical and correspondence analysis.

Main Results:

Students reported higher competence in understanding nursing roles, responsibilities, and ethical/legal practice.
Participants indicated lower perceived competence in leadership, management, and teamwork skills.
A gap exists between perceived current competence and desired future-oriented skills.

Conclusions:

The current nursing curriculum requires modernization to be more future-oriented.
Core changes are needed in the scope and level of competences taught.
Student perceptions highlight the need for enhanced leadership and management training in nursing programs.
