    Mouse oocytes and eggs show normal RNA processing, unlike amphibians. Short interspersed repetitive sequence transcripts are less abundant, and U1 RNA levels remain stable, indicating efficient transcript maturation in mammals.

    Background:

    • Oocytes of lower animals accumulate incompletely processed transcripts, including short interspersed repetitive sequences.
    • A decrease in U1 RNA concentration, crucial for RNA processing, is observed in growing frog oocytes.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To investigate whether mammalian oocytes exhibit similar unusual RNA processing features as observed in amphibians.
    • To compare the abundance of short repetitive sequence transcripts and U1 RNA levels in mouse oocytes and eggs with somatic cells.
