Summary

This study reports a rare case of isolated cleft lip (CL) and generalized aggressive periodontitis. The co-occurrence highlights the need for multidisciplinary care in managing such complex genetic and oral health conditions.

Area of Science:

  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
  • Periodontology
  • Genetics

Background:

  • Oro-facial clefts are common birth defects, sometimes linked to genetic anomalies.

  • Aggressive periodontitis is a rare, rapidly progressing condition, often familial.
  • Existing literature links genetic disorders to aggressive periodontitis, but not isolated cleft lip.
