Depth perception is the ability to perceive objects three-dimensionally. It relies on two types of cues: binocular and monocular. Brightness masking, a visual phenomenon, is disrupted by binocular processing stages. This study found masking effects weaken when stimuli have different 3-D slant, suggesting mid-level visual mechanisms are involved.
