[Phlebographic observations on the morphology and function of the femoral vein and its valves]
Insights
This study analyzed femoral vein and valve function in 334 cases using phlebography. Ascending and descending phlebography proved valuable for diagnosing femoral valvular incompetence.
Area of Science:
- Vascular anatomy and physiology
- Medical imaging techniques
Background:
- The femoral vein and its valves are crucial for lower limb venous return.
- Understanding their normal and abnormal morphology is essential for diagnosing venous diseases.
Purpose of the Study:
- To analyze and compare the morphology and function of the femoral vein and its valves.
- To establish diagnostic criteria for normal and abnormal femoral veins and valves.
- To classify types of femoral valvular incompetence and evaluate phlebography's diagnostic utility.
Main Methods:
- Ascending and descending phlebography were performed on 334 cases (414 lower limbs).
- Statistical analysis was used to establish diagnostic criteria.
- Morphological and functional characteristics were compared between normal and abnormal groups.
Main Results:
- Diagnostic criteria for normal and abnormal femoral veins and valves were established.
- Three distinct types of femoral valvular incompetence were identified and proposed.
- The study demonstrated the effectiveness of ascending and descending phlebography in diagnosing femoral valve abnormalities.
Conclusions:
- Ascending and descending phlebography are valuable tools for diagnosing femoral vein and valve conditions.
- The proposed classification of femoral valvular incompetence aids in diagnosis and understanding.
- Established diagnostic criteria enhance the accuracy of evaluating femoral vein and valve morphology and function.
Abstract:
The morphology and function of the femoral vein and its valves in normal and abnormal groups were analysed and compared in 334 cases (414 lower limbs) by ascending and descending phlebography. The diagnostic criteria were established in the normal and abnormal femoral vein and its valves using statistical analysis. Three types of the femoral valvular incompetence were proposed and the value of ascending and descending phlebography in the diagnosis of femoral valves was discussed.
