Cooling an Optically Trapped Ultracold Fermi Gas by Periodical Driving

We demonstrate optical trapping of ultra-cold atoms using a Poggendorff dark ring created by conical refraction in biaxial crystals. This novel method confines atoms in three dimensions for precise manipulation.
