We sequenced the genome of a novel Pseudomonas bacterium from US creek sediment. This bacterium, related to Pseudomonas putida, has a smaller genome affected by horizontal gene transfer and plasmid instability.
Area of Science:
- Microbiology
- Genomics
- Environmental Science
Background:
- Pseudomonas species are ubiquitous in various environments.
- Understanding novel Pseudomonas strains is crucial for ecological and biotechnological applications.
Purpose of the Study:
- To present the draft genome sequence of a newly identified Pseudomonas sp. nov. H2.
- To analyze its genomic features and evolutionary relationship with known Pseudomonas species.
Main Methods:
- Isolation of Pseudomonas sp. nov. H2 from creek sediment.
- Whole-genome sequencing and assembly.
- Comparative genomic analysis.
Main Results:
- The draft genome sequence of Pseudomonas sp. nov. H2 was successfully obtained.
- The strain is phylogenetically closest to Pseudomonas putida.
- Genomic analysis revealed a smaller genome size, evidence of horizontal gene transfer, and poor maintenance of IncP-1 plasmids.
Conclusions:
- Pseudomonas sp. nov. H2 represents a distinct lineage within the Pseudomonas genus.
- Its unique genomic characteristics, including horizontal gene transfer impacts and plasmid instability, warrant further investigation.
- This genome sequence provides a valuable resource for studying Pseudomonas evolution and adaptation.
