Sutter double-stem silicone implant arthroplasty of the lesser metatarsophalangeal joints
1Department of Biomechanics, State University of New York, Stonybrook.
Abstract:
A double-stem silicone prosthetic implant to replace the lesser metatarsophalangeal joint has been found to be successful in helping several difficult-to-treat conditions that affect the forefoot. The prosthetic device can be used to replace the proximal phalanx base or the metatarsal head. It is more successful in older (over age 50) patients.
