Background:

Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) conferences are vital for reviewing adverse outcomes in Obstetrics and Gynecology (OB-GYN).
Standardized formats for OB-GYN M&M conferences and their evaluations are not well-documented.
This study introduces a redesigned, multidisciplinary M&M conference format for OB-GYN residency programs.

Discussion:

The redesigned M&M conference integrated the entire residency program, OB-GYN department, nursing staff, midlevel providers, and risk management.
Residents served as presenters and reviewers, receiving faculty evaluations based on a milestones format.
Resident comprehension of case concepts was assessed using pre- and post-conference Likert scale surveys.

Key Insights:

A standardized M&M conference format significantly enhanced resident presentation skills and information synthesis.
Over six months, six cases led to six quality improvement initiatives.
Resident understanding of core concepts demonstrated statistically significant improvement post-conference.

Outlook:

The study highlights the critical role of M&M conferences in advancing both patient safety and resident training.
Further research could explore long-term impacts of standardized M&M formats on clinical practice and patient outcomes.
Implementing standardized M&M protocols can foster a culture of continuous quality improvement in OB-GYN departments.
