Published on: July 9, 2016
Insights
This study found that children experience significant visual fatigue. Children with myopia showed shorter color contrast perception times compared to those with normal vision.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Pediatric Health
- Visual Perception
Background:
- Visual fatigue is a growing concern in children.
- Environmental and physiological factors may influence visual fatigue.
- Myopia prevalence is increasing in pediatric populations.
Purpose of the Study:
- To assess visual fatigue in children aged 10-13.
- To investigate the impact of visual load on color contrast perception.
- To compare visual perception in myopic versus non-myopic children.
Main Methods:
- Assessed color successive contrast perception time.
- Measured perception before and after a controlled visual load.
- Compared results between children with myopia and normal visual acuity.
Main Results:
- A high percentage of children (40.4-52.5%) exhibited visual fatigue.
- Springtime factors like asthenization and avitaminosis may contribute to fatigue.
- Children with myopia had shorter color contrast perception times.
Conclusions:
- Intensive visual load induces significant visual fatigue in children.
- Myopia is associated with altered color contrast perception.
- Further research into seasonal influences on pediatric vision is warranted.
Abstract:
The paper analyses results after a study of visual fatigue by means of determining the perception time of a color successive contrast in children, aged from 10 to 13 years, before and after intensive dosed visual load. The revealed high percentage of visual fatigue in children (40.4-52.5%) is likely to be connected with the fact that the study was made in spring time when signs and body asthenization, avitaminosis are expressed. It was found that perception of a color successive contrast in children with eye myopization is shorter as compared with children with stably normal visual acuity.
