The FineVision trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) implant after cataract surgery provides excellent vision across all distances. Patients experienced good contrast sensitivity and minimal visual disturbances, indicating a successful visual outcome.
Area of Science:
- Ophthalmology
- Biomedical Engineering
- Optics
Background:
- Advancements in intraocular lens (IOL) technology aim to minimize the need for additional optical corrections post-surgery.
- The FineVision trifocal IOL is a new model designed to enhance visual function.
Purpose of the Study:
- To evaluate the visual performance after bilateral cataract surgery with FineVision trifocal IOL implantation.
- To assess corrected distance visual acuity (CDVA), intermediate visual acuity (DCIVA), and near visual acuity (DCNVA).
Main Methods:
- Prospective, nonrandomized, observational study involving 22 patients (44 eyes).
- Visual acuity, contrast sensitivity (CS), and aberrations were measured pre- and post-surgery (3 months).
- Defocus curves and adverse photic phenomena were assessed under photopic and mesopic conditions.
Main Results:
- Excellent binocular visual acuities were achieved: CDVA -0.05 ± 0.05, DCIVA 0.15 ± 0.10, DCNVA 0.06 ± 0.10.
- Mean Pelli-Robson contrast sensitivity was 1.40 ± 0.14 log units.
- Significant differences in defocus curves (p < 0.0001) and a low disturbance index (0.28 ± 0.22) were noted.
Conclusions:
- Bilateral implantation of the FineVision IOL provides a comprehensive range of vision.
- The study demonstrated satisfactory contrast sensitivity and a minimal incidence of adverse photic phenomena.
- The FineVision trifocal IOL is effective in improving visual outcomes after cataract surgery.
