Does vitamin D play a significant role in type 2 diabetes?

Vitamin D deficiency is common in type 2 diabetes (T2DM) and non-diabetic individuals. However, this study found no significant link between vitamin D levels (25-hydroxyvitamin D) and hemoglobin glycation (HbA1c) or insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) in T2DM patients.

- Similarly, no significant association was observed between serum 25OHD deficiency and HOMA-IR in T2DM cases (p = 0.257) or control subjects (p = 0.647).
Conclusions:
- Vitamin D deficiency is highly prevalent in both type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and non-diabetic individuals in the studied population.
- The current study did not establish a clinically significant role for vitamin D (25OHD) in influencing hemoglobin glycation (HbA1c) or insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) among T2DM subjects.
