  • Experiments manipulated the association of reward-associated colors with targets and distractors, and feature binding.

  • Task-irrelevant features can elicit VDAC in the absence of reward during testing.
  • VDAC is not dependent on task relevance, suggesting a more indirect reward-associated learning mechanism.
  • These findings align VDAC under task-irrelevant conditions with previous findings using target-defining features.
