Tips for a Physician in Getting the Right Job, Part XXIV: What To Do If Fired
1From the Advanced Radiology Services and the Division of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging, College of Human Services, Michigan State University, Grand Rapids, MI.
Abstract:
Doctors can be fired for many reasons including poor productivity, poor quality work, complaints from patients or colleagues, differences of opinion with practice leaders, not being professional, not being up to date in knowledge, not doing enough scholarly work, or to factors beyond his/her control. The cause(s) for being terminated and how gracefully the individual left the practice will have an important bearing on how successful the physician will be in finding a new position. If let go, the doctor must not become negative, but must reassess his/her career and life goals, and plan carefully for the future.
