    Summary

Stereoscopic cultivation of Dendrobium officinale significantly increases land use and yield. While polysaccharide content remains similar, extractum levels and overall yield are higher, especially in upper cultivation layers.

    Area of Science:

    • Agricultural Science
    • Horticulture
    • Plant Physiology

    Background:

    • Dendrobium officinale is a valuable medicinal plant.
    • Optimizing cultivation space is crucial for maximizing yield and resource efficiency.
    • Traditional ground cultivation limits space utilization.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To evaluate the impact of stereoscopic cultivation on Dendrobium officinale yield and functional components.
    • To compare agronomic traits and component variations between stereoscopic and ground cultivation methods.
    • To identify optimal conditions within stereoscopic systems for enhanced quality and efficiency.

    Main Methods:

    • Field experiments were conducted to assess agronomic traits and yield.
    • Polysaccharide content was determined using the phenol-sulfuric acid method.
    • Extractum content and total yield were analyzed according to the Chinese Pharmacopoeia (2010 edition).

    Main Results:

    • Stereoscopic cultivation increased land utilization by 2.74 times compared to ground cultivation.
    • Plants grown in stereoscopic systems exhibited greater fresh and dry weight per unit area.
    • Extractum content and total polysaccharide and extractum content were significantly higher in stereoscopic cultivation.
    • The top two tiers of the stereoscopic system yielded significantly higher polysaccharide and extractum content.

    Conclusions:

    • Stereoscopic cultivation effectively enhances space utilization and yield for Dendrobium officinale.
    • This method increases the extractum content and overall yield of key compounds.
    • Light intensity variation across different tiers in stereoscopic systems may influence Dendrobium polysaccharide content.
