The ankle is formed by the talocrural joint (crural = leg). It consists of the articulations between the talus bone of the foot and the distal ends of the tibia and fibula of the leg. Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the outcomes of a combined surgical technique for chronic lateral ankle instability.
  • This technique involves direct anatomic reconstruction of the ATFL augmented with the peroneus brevis tendon.
  • The augmented graft is secured using a bio-absorbable interference screw.

  • Fifteen patients (13 men, 2 women) with chronic ankle instability underwent the described surgical procedure.
