    Background:

    • Renal hemangiomas are uncommon benign renal tumors.
    • Preoperative distinction from malignant renal tumors is challenging.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To review the experience at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) with renal hemangiomas.
    • To identify clinical and radiologic features for preoperative diagnosis.

    Main Methods:

    • Retrospective review of patients with renal hemangiomas from a prospectively collected database.
    • Analysis of patient and tumor characteristics.
    • Review of preoperative imaging studies.

    Main Results:

    • Fifteen cases of renal hemangiomas were identified.
    • Most patients underwent surgical treatment.
    • Significant decrease in estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) observed post-surgery.
    • No definitive radiographic features for preoperative diagnosis were found, though some hepatic hemangioma features were noted.

    Conclusions:

    • Preoperative diagnosis of renal hemangiomas is difficult.
    • Renal biopsy can aid in identifying benign lesions.
    • Avoiding unnecessary surgery can prevent negative impacts on renal function.
